Today we went over the written portion of the Biotechnology Test and F.E.S.S.ed the scantron portion. There is no h.w. tonight! Enjoy the next 2 days of Odyssey. We will start the next unit on Reproduction on Thursday. For those students who would still like some extra practice with Recombinant DNA technology or gel electrophoresis come to the Remediation session. See note below.

Today I collected the Seeking Justice Analysis Questions that you should have completed last night. Then we discussed the Are You My Mother? Lab. Then we went over the Tools of a Genetic Engineer Lab and practiced making Recombinant DNA again. My Key is posted below for these two activities. For h.w. you need to complete the Biotechnology Review Sheet. I have also posted a link to a website for extra practice. Good luck studying! Today we looked at some sample DNA fingerprints and discussed how to interpret one. Then groups looked at the gels that you made yesterday in class. I have attached a picture of a groups gel below. I will collect the Seeking Justice Lab Analysis Questions tomorrow. Now you should be able to answer #1–6. These should be typed. Then we began the Are You My Mother? Lab. You need to finish this for h.w. along with answering the Analysis Questions. These do not need to be typed. Good luck!

Today we completed Part B of the Tools of a Genetic Engineer Activity. You need to answer the Analysis Questions and write a conclusion for h.w. Don't loose the Recombinant DNA you made in class. You will need to turn that in tomorrow as well. You also need to complete the Pre–Lab questions for the Seeking Justice Lab we will do tomorrow in class. Today I checked in the Genetic Engineering of Insulin w.s. that was h.w. last night and we went over it as a class. My key is attached below. Then we discussed the results from the Electrophoresis Lab we did on Wednesday. The link to the video clip I showed in class is below along with my key to the lab. Students then had the last 10 minutes to begin the Tools of a Genetic Engineer Lab. Whatever you did not finish is h.w. Handout also attached below. Remember, you only need to complete Part A and answer the analysis questions for Procedure A. JUST READ AND ANNOTATE PART B OF THE LAB. We will do part B (making recombinant DNA) together as a class on Monday. I want you to overview the processes involved in Part B prior to Monday's class. Have a great weekend!
